MMI's Summer courses are now open for registration. All courses begin in June. Each workshop is worth one credit. Tuition is $25.00 per session; for example, tuition for a three-session workshop is $75.00. An initial registration fee of $15.00 is required of all applicants. SW2 The Angst of Adolescence (Four sessions, June)
Parents, educators, and mental health professionals are invited to explore the difficult aspects of working with both younger and older adolescents. Rebellion, withdrawal, defiance of authority, somatic complaints, and conflicting peer group loyalties will be discussed in presented cases, with special focus on recognizing and dealing with the frustrating countertransference issues that arise in the home, in school and in treatment.

SW3 Spare the Rod: Modern Analysis and Child Discipline (Three sessions, July)
Children respond to anxiety, challenges and transitions differently. What do you do when a child acts out repeatedly, becomes a "problem" in the eyes of friends or teachers, won't listen, or provokes you until you lose your temper? Through the lens of Modern Psychoanalysis, we will examine how to tap a child's emotional resilience, encourage cooperation and help parents and educators communicate effectively with the children in their lives.

SW4 Integrating Faith and Psychoanalysis (1 Session, August)
This workshop will explore how the modern analyst can appreciate the analysand's faith and use it in the service of the analysis. Discussion will include how to distinguish between spirituality as a form of resistance in analysis, and the patient's healthy use of faith. Case illustrations will be examined and return students welcomed.

SW1 Conversations with Dr. Spotnitz on Modern Group Analysis (2 Sessions, June)
A viewing of the videotaped 1999 interview with Dr. Hyman Spotnitz will be held at MMI's office. This interview, in which Dr. Spotnitz details the development of his groundbreaking practice of Modern Psychoanalysis, highlights his renowned wit and insight. Discussion to follow will center on how these principles have informed our interactions in everyday life, affected our relationships, and transformed psychoanalytic practice.

SW5 Life After the M.S.W.: Forging a Professional Identity from Day One (4 Sessions, July)
How do we envision a career in a helping profession like social work? This experiential workshop will elicit members' thoughts and hopes for their future careers, and integrate contributions from the relevant literature. Participants will be empowered to begin charting a career path which is consistent with their long range goals. Topics will include finding the "right" job, establishing a healthy work-life balance, collegiality, mentoring and being mentored, financial planning, and money issues in private practice.

SW6 Clutter III (1 Sessions, June)
Toss it, keep it, or add to it? In this interactive workshop, participants will look at clutter as a defense and a resistance, and decode its purpose in our lives. Case histories welcome. Clutter I & II members are invited to return.
